A cloud of unease settled over the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland on its final day as a New Jersey sports card dealer was the victim of a significant theft. Around $275,000 in cash was reported stolen from his vehicle on Sunday, July 28, casting a shadow over what had been a vibrant event.
The unfortunate incident took place at the I-X Center, where the 48-year-old dealer was in the process of loading his SUV after concluding his business at the convention. Among the stolen items were the substantial amount of cash, along with two iPads, which had been securely kept in a black briefcase within the vehicle. Despite the dealer’s belief that the SUV was properly locked, the briefcase mysteriously vanished in his absence.
Upon investigation, Cleveland Police First District detectives discovered the abandoned black briefcase, equipped with an air tag, on the I-X Center premises. However, the most crucial contents of the briefcase, the cash, had been seized by the unknown perpetrators. The frustrating turn of events left the authorities with a challenging task on their hands.
Efforts to apprehend the culprits are underway, with the police currently on the lookout for two suspects who were sighted departing the vicinity in a blue Honda Odyssey van.
