Robert Edward Auctions Kicks Off 2024 with Astonishing Baseball Memorabilia and Rare Collectibles

Robert Edward Auctions is starting off the year with a spectacular Encore event, offering an unparalleled collection that spans over 180 years of sports history. This extensive auction features nearly 3,700 lots, showcasing some of the most unique and oldest items ever offered in the world of sports memorabilia, with a special focus on baseball.

One of the standout pieces in this auction is a signed receipt from Alexander Cartwright, a pioneer in the early days of baseball. Dating back to 1842, this item not only boasts incredible age but also offers a direct connection to a seminal figure in the sport’s history.

Another remarkable artifact from the 19th century is the exceptionally rare 1888 N403 Yum Yum Tobacco John Clarkson “Throwing” card. Graded EX 5, this PSA-graded card is the only known example featuring the Hall of Fame pitcher and outfielder, making it a true treasure for collectors.

Harry Wright, a prominent figure in early baseball history, is also represented in this auction with a personal scorecard. This unique scorecard, from a June 22, 1883 game between Philadelphia and the Providence Grays, managed by Wright, is a one-of-a-kind item. Scored in pencil and blue ink, it bears Wright’s signature and has been graded a 9 by PSA.

Kicking off the auction is an SGC 1.5 graded 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, accompanied by a vast array of other Mantle items. Additionally, the auction showcases over 250 autographed items, many of which come from iconic baseball figures from the past.

Brian Dwyer, President of REA, expressed his excitement for this Encore Auction, acknowledging it as one of the company’s most robust offerings to date. He highlighted the wide selection of signed items and iconic cards available in various grades, catering to collectors of all preferences.

Among the other notable items in REA’s January Auction are a 1914 E145 Cracker Jack #37 Grover Alexander SGC VG 3 card, a 1986 Topps Football #374 Steve Young Rookie SGC GEM MINT 10 card, a Babe Ruth cut signature, a 1938 Lou Gehrig signed postcard, a 1924 Walter Johnson signed album page, and a 1939 Honus Wagner signed Baseball Centennial First-Day Cover. The auction also features three 1954 Topps #128 Hank Aaron rookie cards, a 1957 Topps Football #138 Johnny Unitas Rookie BVG NM-MT 8 card, and early Michael Jordan cards, among others.

The auction’s signed checks section boasts checks signed by baseball legends Jackie Robinson, Ty Cobb, and Roberto Clemente. For collectors of T206 cards, the auction offers over 720 options, including rare advertising backs and cards featuring the rare Carolina Brights backs.

Continuing the tradition of REA’s Encore Auctions, all items have a starting bid of $10. Bidding is now open on the company’s website and will run through January 21. This exciting opportunity allows collectors and enthusiasts alike to immerse themselves in the world of baseball history and rare memorabilia.
